Placewoven is an independent English-language, AI-assisted local-history publication operated from Ontario, Canada. For privacy questions, requests about personal information, or editorial corrections, write to bryan+placewoven@usefulsignal.ca.

What the website collects

You can read Placewoven without creating an account, signing in, paying, or completing a form. The article search and category filters work in your browser; Placewoven does not send those search terms to its editorial database. We do not currently embed advertising networks, marketing pixels or third-party analytics scripts.

Like most websites, our hosting provider receives the network requests needed to show each page. These may contain your IP address, browser and device information, time, requested URL and technical security information. The site is hosted on Vercel; its processing and retention practices apply to its hosting and security services. Essential service or security cookies may be used by the hosting infrastructure; Placewoven does not operate a visitor profile, user account or advertising-cookie system at this time.

When you write to us

If you email us, we receive your email address, your message and anything you choose to include. Our business email service processes these messages so we can respond, assess corrections, and maintain an accurate editorial record. Please avoid sending sensitive personal or medical information unless necessary. We do not sell reader contact information, use correction submissions for advertising, or publish your private messages without permission.

How information is used, shared and retained

Technical requests are processed to serve pages, protect the website and investigate errors. Messages to our editorial address are used to respond and assess corrections. Hosting and business-email providers may process the limited data needed to deliver those services, potentially outside your country. We retain correspondence only as long as reasonably needed for its purpose, security, legal obligations or a defensible editorial correction record; service-provider logs follow the provider's own retention controls.

Links, changes and choices

Articles link to museums, archives, governments and other independent websites. Clicking those links takes you to websites with their own privacy practices. You may write to the editorial address above to ask about information you provided, request correction or deletion where applicable, or raise a privacy concern. We will review and respond subject to applicable law and the need to preserve an accurate published record.

If advertising, reader accounts, payment features, newsletters or new analytics are added, we will update this notice and implement any required consent controls before enabling those functions. The effective date above will be changed when we materially revise this policy.
